Bhejane Trust
Bhejane Trust was formed in 2009 in response to the growing need to protect Zimbabwe’s wildlife and wild spaces. With a strong commitment to practical, on-the-ground conservation, the Trust supports national parks through initiatives such as Water for Wildlife, which provides and maintains vital water sources in arid landscapes. By safeguarding critical habitats and resources, Bhejane Trust helps ensure wildlife can survive, move naturally, and thrive for generations to come.
Our Mission
Our aim is to assist the Wildlife Authorities in the day-to-day management of several National Parks and wildlife areas within the region. This is no small feat, but rather a demanding and complex undertaking that spans vast, rugged, and often remote landscapes. It requires substantial resources, skilled personnel, and unwavering commitment to ensure that critical conservation activities are carried out effectively. Through close collaboration and sustained support, we work to strengthen on-the-ground management and maximise our collective efforts to protect these vital ecosystems.
Our Impact
Today our works transcends Hwange, Kazuma Pan and Zambezi National Parks. A combined area of over 4,000 square kilometers, where our work contributes significantly to the preservation and protection of these ecosystems, ensuring that they remain a haven for wildlife. Operating under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, we are primarily an implementing organization. Funded by the good will and generosity of others who share our conservation vision and a passion of these wild areas.
Our hands on approach allows us to have teams on the ground and in the field on a daily basis, working towards a better conservation future. This intimate knowledge coupled with our years of experience have allowed us to develop a very good understanding of the landscape. In 2023, Bhejane Trust became a founding member of the Wildlife Conservation Coalition. An association formed to unite the purposes and align the efforts of various conservation organizations operating in the same landscape. We completely support the notion that conservation is best achieved together!
Our Work
Whilst the merger has brought with it significant advantages, our primary purpose for being has not changed. Bhejane Trust’s conservation mandate remains the same with three distinct areas of focus.
Our Story
Bhejane Trust was founded by Zimbabwean conservationist Trevor Lane, whose deep-rooted passion for wildlife and lifelong connection to the country’s wild places inspired the establishment of the organisation in 2009. With extensive experience in conservation and a practical, hands-on approach, Trevor recognised the increasing pressures faced by Wildlife Authorities responsible for managing vast, remote, and often under-resourced protected areas. He envisioned Bhejane Trust as a collaborative partner, providing meaningful on-the-ground support through initiatives such as water provision for wildlife, habitat management, and the supply of essential equipment and resources.
Supporting National Parks Where It Matters Most
Bhejane Trust plays a crucial role in supporting Zimbabwe’s National Parks, helping Wildlife Authorities manage vast and often challenging landscapes. By providing essential resources, technical support, and hands-on assistance, the Trust strengthens park operations, improves wildlife monitoring, and ensures that vital conservation initiatives, such as anti-poaching efforts and habitat management are carried out effectively. This support not only protects endangered species but also safeguards the integrity of entire ecosystems, making Bhejane Trust’s work indispensable to the long-term health and sustainability of the country’s protected areas.
